About the General Chemistry Associate certification

An associate-level certification that takes you from the structure of the atom to the quantitative heart of modern chemistry. You begin with atomic theory and the quantum model — orbitals, electron configurations, quantum numbers, and the way the periodic table encodes them — then master periodic trends (atomic and ionic radius, ionization energy, electron affinity, electronegativity) and explain them from first principles. You build molecules with Lewis structures, VSEPR geometry, hybridization, and bond polarity, and predict their physical behaviour from intermolecular forces. The course is relentlessly quantitative: you balance equations, work limiting-reagent and percent-yield problems, derive empirical and molecular formulas, and run solution stoichiometry and titrations. You apply the gas laws and kinetic molecular theory (ideal and real gases, partial pressures, effusion), measure heat with thermochemistry (enthalpy, Hess's law, calorimetry, bond energies), and analyse kinetics (rate laws, reaction order, activation energy, catalysis, mechanisms). You solve chemical equilibrium with Kc and Kp, Le Chatelier's principle, and ICE tables; handle acids and bases (pH/pOH, Ka/Kb, buffers, titration curves, polyprotic systems) and solubility equilibria (Ksp); balance redox reactions and design galvanic cells, standard potentials, and electrolysis; and close with thermodynamics (entropy, Gibbs free energy, spontaneity) and the basics of nuclear chemistry. Every concept is worked through with numbers and plain-text notation, so you leave able to compute, not merely recite. It is the bridge from introductory chemistry to organic, physical, biochemistry and the health sciences.
