About the Quantum Mechanics Professional certification
A professional-level certification that builds quantum mechanics from its experimental origins into a working, mathematical theory. You will start where physics broke: blackbody radiation, the photoelectric effect, Compton scattering, atomic spectra, and the Bohr model — the experiments that forced energy and matter to be quantised. From there you develop wave-particle duality and the de Broglie relation, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, and the central object of the theory: the wavefunction psi, the Born probability interpretation, and normalisation. You will master the Schrodinger equation in both its time-dependent and time-independent forms, and the operator formalism — observables as Hermitian operators, eigenvalues, expectation values, and commutators. You will solve the canonical bound systems by hand: the particle in a box and quantum wells, the quantum harmonic oscillator with its ladder operators and zero-point energy, and the potential step and barrier, where you will quantify quantum tunnelling. The atomic chapters cover the hydrogen atom — the principal, orbital, magnetic, and spin quantum numbers, orbitals, and energy levels — followed by angular momentum and spin (Pauli matrices, the Stern-Gerlach experiment), the Pauli exclusion principle, and identical particles. You will meet time-independent perturbation theory, the measurement problem (superposition and wavefunction collapse), quantum entanglement and an introduction to Bell's theorem, and the Dirac bra-ket notation with the Hilbert-space picture of quantum states, closing with a brief survey of the major interpretations. Every concept is illustrated, every relation is stated in plain-text notation, and the worked problems carry real numbers and units. It is the natural step beyond classical mechanics toward modern, atomic, and quantum-information physics.
