About the Electromagnetism Professional certification

The Electromagnetism Professional certification validates a deep, working command of classical electricity and magnetism — the theory that unifies electric and magnetic phenomena and underpins all of electrical engineering, optics and modern communications. You will reason quantitatively about electric charge and Coulomb's law, build and superpose electric fields from point charges and continuous distributions, exploit symmetry with Gauss's law, and work fluently with electric potential, potential energy and equipotentials. You will analyze capacitance, dielectrics and stored field energy; apply Ohm's law, resistance and power to DC circuits, solving networks with Kirchhoff's laws and characterising RC transients. The magnetism half develops the Lorentz force, forces and torques on currents, charged-particle motion, and the sources of magnetic field via Biot–Savart and Ampère's law (solenoids, toroids). You will master electromagnetic induction — Faraday's and Lenz's laws, motional EMF, self- and mutual inductance, and RL circuits — then AC circuits with impedance, RLC resonance and phasors. The capstone ties it together: Maxwell's equations in integral and differential form, the displacement current, and the electromagnetic waves they predict — the wave equation, the Poynting vector, polarization and the EM spectrum. The exam is calculation-heavy and conceptual in equal measure. Candidates should already hold Physics Foundations or possess equivalent command of vectors, calculus and Newtonian mechanics.
