About the Physics Foundations certification
A foundation-level certification that turns the core ideas of classical physics into a clear, working toolkit. You will learn the language of measurement — SI units, prefixes, and dimensional analysis — and the crucial distinction between scalars and vectors. From there you build a complete picture of motion: displacement, velocity and acceleration, the equations of motion, free fall, projectile basics, and how to read motion graphs. You will master Newton's three laws and the everyday forces — weight, the normal force, friction, and tension — and learn to draw free-body diagrams that actually solve problems. The energy chapters cover work, kinetic and potential energy, the conservation of energy, and power; momentum brings impulse and collisions. You will meet circular motion, gravitation, and simple machines, then the physics of the everyday world — density, pressure and fluids, temperature and heat, waves and sound, light and optics (reflection and refraction), and the essentials of electricity (charge, current, voltage, resistance, Ohm's law, and simple circuits) and magnetism. Throughout, the emphasis is on solving real problems with correct units, not memorising formulas. Every concept is illustrated and every formula is worked through with numbers. It is the natural first step before any associate-level physics or engineering science certification.
What you will learn
The official Physics Foundations study course covers:
- Measurement, Units, and Vectors — SI units and prefixes, dimensional analysis, and the all-important difference between scalars and vectors — the language every later topic is written…
- Kinematics: Describing Motion — Displacement, velocity, acceleration, the equations of motion, free fall and projectiles, and how to read motion graphs.
- Forces and Newton's Laws — Newton's three laws, the everyday forces (weight, normal, friction, tension), and how to draw free-body diagrams that solve problems.
- Energy, Work, Momentum, and Power — Work and energy, kinetic and potential energy, the conservation of energy, power, and momentum with impulse and collisions.
- The Everyday Physical World — Density, pressure and fluids; temperature and heat; waves, sound, light and optics; and the essentials of electricity and magnetism.
