About the Professional Cloud Architect certification
The Professional Cloud Architect certification validates that you can design, justify and defend end-to-end cloud systems against real business constraints — the way senior architects do on the job. You will reason across the well-architected framework and all six of its pillars (operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimization and sustainability) and translate them into concrete decisions: which compute model (VMs, containers, serverless) fits a workload; which data store matches an access pattern (SQL, NoSQL, cache, warehouse, lake); how to design VPCs, hybrid connectivity, global load balancing and CDNs; how to build defense-in-depth and zero-trust security with IAM, KMS and encryption; how to achieve high availability across multiple AZs and regions; and how to pick a disaster-recovery strategy (backup & restore, pilot light, warm standby, active-active) against explicit RTO/RPO targets. The exam goes deep on scaling and load balancing, microservices and event-driven design, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD, SRE and observability (SLI/SLO/error budgets), FinOps cost optimization, landing zones and governance, and the 6 Rs of migration — always as trade-off scenarios where you choose the right design, not recall trivia. It is deliberately cloud-agnostic: the principles transfer across AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Candidates should already hold a cloud associate-level credential or have equivalent hands-on platform experience.
What you will learn
The official Professional Cloud Architect study course covers:
- The Well-Architected Framework — The six pillars and how to turn competing goals into deliberate, documented design decisions.
- Compute, Containers and Serverless — Choosing the right compute model and the trade-offs of VMs, containers and functions.
- Storage and Databases — Matching data stores to access patterns; replication, caching, partitioning and consistency.
- Networking, Hybrid and Security — VPC design, hybrid connectivity, global delivery, defense in depth, IAM, encryption and zero trust.
- High Availability, DR and Scaling — Multi-AZ HA, the DR spectrum with RTO/RPO, and elastic scaling and load balancing.
- Microservices, Operations, Cost and Migration — Event-driven design, IaC/CI/CD, observability, FinOps, governance and the 6 Rs.
