About the Wireless & Mobility Professional certification
The Wireless & Mobility Professional certification validates that you can plan, deploy, secure and troubleshoot enterprise wireless networks against real coverage and capacity requirements. You will reason about RF fundamentals — frequency, wavelength, dBm and dBi, free-space path loss, signal-to-noise ratio and interference — and turn them into channel plans, link budgets and AP placements. The exam covers the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands, channel width and channel planning, the 802.11 standard family (a/b/g/n/ac and Wi-Fi 6/6E and the basics of Wi-Fi 7), modulation and MIMO, MU-MIMO, OFDMA and beamforming, SSID/BSSID/ESS concepts, association and fast roaming (802.11r/k/v), authentication and security (WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X/EAP, PSK, captive portals), WLAN architectures (autonomous, controller-based and cloud-managed), antenna types, site survey and design (coverage vs capacity, AP placement, cell overlap), spectrum analysis and interference mitigation, wireless QoS (WMM), guest/BYOD/NAC, structured troubleshooting and mobile-device-management basics. It is vendor-neutral: the principles transfer across Cisco, Aruba, Juniper Mist, Ruckus and Ubiquiti. Candidates should already hold the Routing & Switching Associate credential or equivalent hands-on networking experience.
What you will learn
The official Wireless & Mobility Professional study course covers:
- RF Fundamentals & the dB Math — Frequency, wavelength, amplitude, dBm/dBi, EIRP, path loss and SNR — the physics every wireless decision rests on.
- Bands, Channels & the 802.11 Family — The 2.4/5/6 GHz bands, channel width and planning, and the evolution from 802.11a to Wi-Fi 7.
- Modulation, MIMO & Antennas — How bits ride the air (modulation), how multiple antennas multiply capacity (MIMO/MU-MIMO/OFDMA/beamforming), and how antenna choice shapes coverage.
- WLAN Architecture & Security — Autonomous, controller-based and cloud-managed designs, and the full security stack: WPA2/WPA3, 802.1X/EAP, PSK and captive portals.
- Site Survey & Design — Coverage vs capacity, AP sizing and placement, cell overlap, spectrum analysis and the full survey workflow.
- Roaming, QoS, Mobility & Troubleshooting — Fast roaming (802.11r/k/v), WMM QoS, guest/BYOD/NAC, mobile device management and structured troubleshooting.
