Certified Ethical Hacker Certification

Authorized offensive testing, end to end

Key facts

About the Certified Ethical Hacker certification

The Certified Ethical Hacker credential validates that you can plan and execute an authorized security assessment across the full attack lifecycle — and, crucially, turn every finding into a defense. It rests on one non-negotiable principle: every action an ethical hacker takes must be backed by written authorization, a defined scope, and an agreed rules of engagement. The identical technique — a port scan, an exploit attempt — is a professional service when authorized and a crime when not. What separates the ethical hacker from the criminal is consent, scope and intent, never skill or tooling. You will work conceptually through the entire penetration-testing lifecycle — reconnaissance and footprinting, scanning, enumeration, vulnerability analysis, exploitation, post-exploitation, covering-tracks awareness, and reporting — mapping adversary behaviour to the MITRE ATT&CK framework and the Cyber Kill Chain. The exam spans OSINT and footprinting, network-scanning and enumeration concepts, CVSS scoring and risk-based prioritization, system-hacking and privilege-escalation hardening, malware families and defenses, sniffing and MITM defenses, social engineering and awareness, denial-of-service and session-hijacking mitigations, IDS/IPS/firewall/honeypot evasion concepts and how defenders counter them, the OWASP Top 10 with remediation, SQL-injection defense via parameterized queries, wireless (WPA2/WPA3), mobile, IoT/OT, cloud-security testing, and cryptography with attacks on weak crypto. The emphasis throughout is defensive and professional: you learn how techniques work so you can find, prioritize and fix weaknesses — never to cause harm. This certification is tool-agnostic; it teaches tool categories and methodology rather than commands or payloads.

What you will learn

The official Certified Ethical Hacker study course covers:

  1. Authorization, Scope & Ethics — The legal and ethical foundation: written permission, rules of engagement, and the duty to do no harm — what makes hacking ethical.
  2. The Attack Lifecycle: Recon to Reporting — The phases from footprinting through reporting and retest, and how each feeds the next.
  3. MITRE ATT&CK & the Cyber Kill Chain — Mapping adversary behaviour to tactics and techniques, breaking the chain early, and red/blue/purple teaming.
  4. OWASP Top 10 & Web Application Defense — The major web risks explained conceptually, each paired with its remediation.
  5. System Hacking, Malware, Network & Wireless Defense — Privilege-escalation hardening, malware families, sniffing/MITM, DoS, session hijacking, IDS/IPS, and wireless.
  6. Cloud, Crypto, CVSS, Vulnerability Management & Reporting — Cloud/mobile/IoT security, cryptography, scoring with CVSS, the vuln-management loop, and reports that drive fixes.
  7. Hands-on Lab — Recon to Report — A CEH capstone in Google Colab: run reconnaissance and enumeration, simulate a port scan and vulnerability assessment, reason about credential and wi…
